Pan-Seared Maine Scallops with Basil

While on business to the east coast, we decided to stop off in South Portland and visit Mark's parents. His parents' house is surrounded by gigantic pine trees on all sides and it was nice to escape from bustle of Manhattan business. We took a walk down the historic Greenbelt walkway and ate at this beautiful open air seafood restaurant.

When we returned to the bay area, I was so inspired, I took the bus immediately down to Bryan's and bought these amazing Scallops!

Fettuccine con basilico e limone

Mark and I took a trip to Green Earth Natural Foods on Divisadero yesterday and we picked up some delicious whole wheat fettuccine. All it needed was a touch of lemon and basil and we felt like we were back in Sicily.

Also, if you are in the Bay Area, I highly recommend the Haight Street Market for an amazing selection of pastas!

Celebration of Spring Vegetables

Last night we watched Woody Allen's Stardust Memories and this scene sums up exactly how I feel this afternoon.

For dinner I decided to mix a bunch of healthy greens together and see what I could come up with.

Starting with asparagus, some fresh mint, shelled peas, baby green beans and some delicious olives I picked up on my way home from work! It was delicious and a perfect way to welcome in the season.

Traditional Zaftig Sandwich

This is a family recipe that dates back three generations. The legend goes that when my great great grandfather Avram Novogrodsky met his wife Valeska, he remarked that she was "pleasantly plump, like a roasted chicken."
Avram's crispy bagel chips were probably better than my salted pita, but we couldn't find any at the market...
